Hotel closes doors over health and safety concerns

Health and safety concerns have led to the closure of a hotel and wedding venue in North Wales. The hotel is now in administration and all existing bookings have been cancelled.

The Wild Pheasant Hotel in Llangollen is now under the control of joint administrators Sarah Bell and Steve Muncaster representing Duff & Phelps. The employees at the hotel were notified of the closure and of their redundancies half way though the working day, while those staying in the hotel that night were left without an option but to find an alternative.

Running a hotel can be a real challenge and, at times, unforeseen costs can put a serious financial strain on your business. Taking out guest house and B&B insurance can help to protect you and your guests should any challenges come your way.

Muncaster told the media: "The hotel has been closed due to health and safety concerns and all existing bookings will be cancelled. With the closure of the hotel, all employees have also been made redundant with immediate effect.”

One of the couples affected by the closure was Vicki Manford and Paul Mitchell. They had already given the hotel £2,000 towards their wedding at the venue when they heard about the administration. Vicki told the Shropshire Star: “I was in denial at first and just assumed that everything would be sorted out.

“It wasn’t until we got home and spoke to the administrators that we realised that we had lost everything, the money and the wedding of my dreams.”

“I love the Wild Pheasant. We celebrate all our special occasions there. Just a couple of days after we had paid the money we went back for my birthday. There was absolutely no indication that anything was wrong.”
