New dealership focuses on prestige used cars

A new dealership has opened to plug what its owners say is a gap in market for prestige motors in northern England and Scotland.

Tustain Motors has opened Prestige Cars Northumberland in Alnwick, where it will be selling used 4x4s, BMWs, Audis, Mercedes and Land Rovers, which all have full service histories, excellent bodywork and lower than average mileages.

If you are diversifying your business to meet a demand in the market, look carefully at your motor trade insurance and road risks insurance. You may need to change your policy to give adequate coverage for the type of vehicles you now have in stock and the kind of test drives you intend to offer.

Prestige Cars Northumberland is part of a chain of dealerships operated by Tustain Motors, which opened for business in 2010. The company also has outlets in Ashington and Berwick in the county, as well as one dealership over the border in Haddington, East Lothian.

David Storey, who founded the business with Brian Baxter and John Tustain, told the Northumberland Gazette: “Between Newcastle and Edinburgh, there are no franchised outlets for these vehicles.

"Demographically there are a lot of people desiring this type of car and we are centrally located between these two cities.”

The new Alnwick dealership is based in the company's refurbished premises in the town. It will be managed by John Packard, who has returned to work in the motor trade after spending time as a pub landlord.

Mr Packard said: “As a car fanatic, I know which makes, models and variants customers want, and the buying of vehicles is where I invest the majority of my time to make sure I stock the right cars at the right price.

“I have a great support team in the Tustain after-sales departments and I am looking forward to having many satisfied customers in the months and years to come.”
