Thieves smash dealership’s gate, steal two cars

Police are hunting thieves who smashed through an iron gate and made away with two vehicles at a Welsh car dealership.

A red Jaguar XJ Sport and a silver Audi A4 were stolen from JSM Car Sales in Caergwrle. The masked culprits, who were caught on CCTV, broke into the premises and trashed the sales office before stealing the keys for the vehicles, as well as sets for two Mercedes.

Cars, particularly high-end models, are always going to attract unwanted attention from thieves – that is why it is essential that a dealership has a good quality combined motor trade insurance policy in place. This insurance can cover not only the vehicles that are stored at the business premises, but can also include cover for the building itself, should it be damaged during a robbery.

Owner of the garage John Hughes said that he was “a bit baffled” that the criminals chose the cars they did, as there were more expensive vehicles in the gated forecourt.

He also told the Daily Post: “We have now spent around £4,000 on extra security. We’ve had new floodlights and cameras and a high tech alarm system in the office and building.”

Local police are appealing for anyone with any information about the event, which took place on 20 October at around 9pm, to come forward.
