Police are on the hunt for thieves who have broken into a car garage in Southampton and stolen tools worth around £24,000.
Criminals smashed a window to get access to V8 Car Service garage in Shirley Business Park at some point between 4.30pm on Sunday 3 May and 8am on Tuesday 5 May, when the business had been shut for the bank holiday. Once inside the culprits made off with wrenches, spanners, air guns for tyre nuts, drills, three alloy wheels with tyres and portable jump start packs as well as an air conditioning unit and a tyre alignment tool, the Southern Daily Echo reported.
Tools and parts are the cornerstone of any car repair business - garages invest a lot of money in them and cannot operate without them. That is why having these goods insured against theft is of utmost importance; a motor trade insurance policy will do just that, as well as offering additional cover for things like the business premises and cars stored on site, should these be damaged or stolen by criminals.
Police Staff Investigator Claire Linton, said of the break in at V8 Car Service: “These offenders have stolen a quantity of tools and machinery valued at £24,000. The two large pieces of machinery would have required two people to lift them. They would have fitted out of the window, but with difficulty, and probably needed two people inside and two outside.
“I would urge anyone with information to get in touch with us as soon as possible. Did you see or hear anything unusual in the area over the bank holiday weekend? Did you see anyone or any vehicles at the unit, or have you been offered any tools or machinery to buy at a reduced price?”
